El 31 de julio de 2014, y después de 4 años de arduo trabajo de construcción, la minera japonesa Pan Pacific Copper inauguró la mina Caserones, ubicada en el norte de Chile. La obra, que demandó una inversión cercana a los US$ 6.000 millones, fue ejecutada por la filial de PPC en el país, SCM Minera Lumina Copper Chile, que es un joint venture entre Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd., con un 66%, y Mitsui Mining, con un 34%. Caserones producirá 180.000 toneladas de cobre fino más de 3.000 toneladas de molibdeno en sus primeros años, con una vida útil aproximada de 28 años. (Para más información, ver Lumina Copper Chile).
The Company
The company produces and markets refined copper, sulfuric acid, precious metals and other mineral products. Among its properties there are: Brightlands, Bungalein – Horse Creek-Malbon2, Mount Margaret, Quechua Project, Talawanta-Grassy Bore, and Caserones (Regalito), in Chile.
On 31 July 2014, and after 4 years of hard construction work, the Japanese mining company Pan Pacific Copper inaugurated the Caserones mine, located in northern Chile. The project, which demanded an investment of almost US$6 billion, was executed by PPC’s subsidiary in the country, SCM Minera Lumina Copper Chile, which is a joint venture between Nippon Mining & Metals Co., with 66%, and Mitsui Mining, with 34%.Caserones will produce 180 thousand tons of fine copper per year and 3 thousand tons of molybdenum in its first few years, with an approximate useful life of 28 years.
